Cantaloupe Melons Recalled Across Five States Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination: FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are urging consumers not to eat, serve, or sell cantaloupe melons from five states due to potential salmonella contamination.
Affected States
The following states are affected by the recall:
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Missouri
- Ohio
Affected Melons
The recalled melons were grown by Chamberlain Farms in Owensboro, Kentucky, and were distributed to retail stores in the affected states. The melons are identified by the following PLU number: 4285.
Symptoms of Salmonella Infection
Symptoms of salmonella infection can include:
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Abdominal cramps
In severe cases, salmonella infection can lead to hospitalization and even death.
Steps to Take
If you have cantaloupe melons from the affected states, you should dispose of them immediately. Do not eat, serve, or sell the melons.
You should also clean and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the melons.
If you experience any symptoms of salmonella infection, you should contact your doctor immediately.
