Tim Walz: From Schoolteacher to Governor
Early Life and Education
Tim Walz was born in West Point, Nebraska on April 6, 1964. He grew up in Valentine, Nebraska and graduated from Valentine High School in 1982.
Walz attended Chadron State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1989. He later earned a master's degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1994.
Military Career
Prior to entering politics, Walz served in the United States Army. He was a non-commissioned officer and served in the 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment of the Nebraska Army National Guard.
Political Career
Walz began his political career in 1998 when he was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives. He served in the House until 2006, when he was elected to the United States Congress.
Walz served in the Congress for three terms. He was a member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the House Committee on Agriculture.
In 2018, Walz was elected Governor of Minnesota. He is the 41st governor of the state.
Personal Life
Walz is married to Gwen Walz. They have two children.
