Sainz Pips Verstappen to Pole in Italian GP

Qualifying Report from Monza

The Ferrari driver set a time of 1:20.046 to edge out the reigning world champion by just 0.036 seconds. It was a dramatic qualifying session with many twists and turns.

Verstappen looked to have done enough to secure pole position, but Sainz crossed the line with just a few seconds to spare to snatch it away from him. It was a major boost for the Ferrari team, who have struggled for pace in recent races.

Sainz's teammate, Charles Leclerc, will start alongside Verstappen on the second row of the grid. The Monegasque driver was only 0.029 seconds off Sainz's pace.

The top three on the grid were followed by Sergio Perez, Esteban Ocon, and Lando Norris. Lewis Hamilton will start from eighth after a disappointing qualifying session for Mercedes.
